"HELPS"

The Original Bed Buddy

I also wanted to mention the neck pain thing. I have our youngest son often massage my neck as it is the only relief I get. When he rubs either side of the neck I get shooting pain down into my shoulder on each side. The PT told me that I have no curve in my neck....it is straight. Of course, I had bulbar polio and my neck muscles were very weak. Took a lot of therapy to strengthen them again after I recovered. However, no doctor has ever done more than x-ray my neck. I always thought an MRI might be helpful to check out any problems with disks etc. But no doctor has ordered this done.

I often times use a heated bean bag (bed buddy) on my neck when it hurts so bad. That helps but the thing Sue mentioned sounds wonderful!!!

Barbara

Hi Terrance,

Okay...as far as "The Original Bed Buddy"...you can purchase them at Eckerd's, Wal-Mart or K-Mart. They are a long tube type of sock material filled with beans. You heat this in the microwave for two to three minutes and the heat remains for a while. Feels great on sore muscles or necks!!!! I think it must have cost around $10 to $15? I don't know for certain as I received mine as a present. They are really good! Barbara

I made one of those bags for myself. You don't even have to be a "seamstress" to do it! You can put this in "Helps."

Just get an athletic tube sock. (I got a black pair)

Cut it to the right length for you and fill it with RICE. (I haven't tried beans so I couldn't tell you what kind to use.) Sew up the open end. I made 2 of these in different sizes. One for around my neck and another to put on my knee, elbow or where you hurt. It stays where you put it. Heat in the microwave. Experiment with different times. It varies due to the size you make and how much rice. It stays hot about 20 minutes.

If someone wants to make a fancy one for themselves or for gift's they can use pretty material cut in a rectangle (length and width to fit )sew one long side one end fill and sew the other end. Tie bows around the ends. Nothing matallic (of course).
